Health and Physical Challenges
Dr. DiCuio has worked extensively with clients who have had to face health and physical challenges. He has been referred to clients from rehab centers to mitigate them to do the necessary work to overcome their challenges due to CVAs, heart attacks, or physical disabilities. At times, he also has had to help them cope with the change from a medical diagnosis, retirement issues, or the loss of a loved one.
Although we experience these issues as we age, traumatic life transition issues can happen at any age.
Part of this work can involve developing healthy aging strategies when we are younger to avoid common ailments associated with aging such as cardiovascular issues, high blood pressure, endocrine disorders such as diabetes, and dementia. The growing field of lifestyle medicine encourages individuals to eat healthier, exercise regularly, avoid addictive behaviors, enhance sleep, increase social interactions, and learn stress reduction techniques to avoid developing health problems as we age. Dr. DiCuio sees his role as motivating clients to strive to improve in all these areas, providing specific stress reduction strategies, and helping clients overcome addictive behaviors.
